About St Matthias Church
Getting to church
St Matthias is a friendly, family church which offers a warm welcome to all.
The church is a grade 1 listed building and was designed by the architect
William Butterfield
- one of the best-known church architects of the 19th century.
The church was built in 1856 and has survived two world wars, and undergone some extensive renovations.
We offer a daily Mass other than a Friday and we believe that the Eucharist is the heart beat of parish life. Up-to-date service times are shown on our home page, and on the services page.
The Parish Church of St Matthias is situated among the bustling and diverse community of Stoke Newington in north London where it has stood for more than 150 years.
Worship is that of High Church and is faithfully served by young servers ranging from 7-17+ years old.
St Matthias is part of the Diocese of London.
We are attached to a school and have school services once a fortnight.
We have the facility of a church hall that provides facilities for a toddler group, dance and yoga groups. See our hall hire page to book the church hall.
We rely on the income of the church hall and donations to financially support the church and all that we do and offer.
However, we say our prayers and know that we are supported by the many who pray for us and with us, including the Saints, the angels and the prayers of Our Lady.
